LEOPOLD MANEUVER

1.Instruct the mother to avoid or empty the bladder. Warm hands.
2.Place the client in a dorsal recumbent position with knees flexed.
3.1st Maneuver: Stand at the side of the client, facing her, & palpate hands flat on the abdomen
4.Palpate superior surface of the fundus. Determine
position & presentation of the fetus.
5.2nd Maneuver: Face the client & place palms of each
hand on either side of the abdomen.
6.Palpate each side of abdomen from top to bottom.
7.3rd Maneuver: Gently grasp the lower portion of the
abdomen, just above the symphysis pubis between the
thumb & index finger & move it gently from side to side.
8.4th Maneuver: Face the lower extremities. Place the
Fingers on both side of the uterus approximately 2
downward & inward in the direction of the birth canal.
Allow the fingers to be carried downward.
